Key Stage 3 & 4

Key Stage 3

Young people will be able to identify behaviours and qualities they should show and expect from others in positive relationships (individually and in friendship groups). They can recognise these relationships cause strong feelings (including sexual attraction) which are complex and hard to alter.  KS3 students are able to identify the ways in which the power-balance of a relationship can be manipulated through different types of bullying and abuse. They can show an empathetic approach to helping those who make harmful behaviour choices and support them to change through peer support and access to adult help. Young people are able to see how their relationships and discrimination extend beyond school into the community and home.  Children develop a clear picture of peer pressure through talking about real and recent examples relating to personal events in their own life and the experiences of others. They can talk about the difference between friendship groups and gangs. Importantly they will develop secure strategies to manage peer pressure and seek further help in their own lives.

Young people are able to identify behaviours and qualities they should show and expect from others in positive relationships (including friendships, family relationships, sexual relationships and in the community). KS4 Students can recognise abusive, unhealthy and unacceptable relationships.  All forms of abuse including, domestic abuse and sexual assault, are explored through discussion and relatable examples with an emphasis on identifying the emotional impacts on victims.. They can recognise when others are using coercion, control and manipulation to unfairly influence others. They have a range of strategies (including peer identification and support) to respond to these contexts keeping themselves and others safe. They know how to manage unwanted attention, such as harassment, in order to feel safe and confident in their own lives.
