Vera Baird QC, Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner, is delighted to announce that her preferred candidate for the Chief Constable post for Northumbria Police is Mr Stephen Ashman.
Mr Ashman is currently the Deputy Chief Constable for Northumbria Police. The appointment will now await confirmation from the Police & Crime Panel on Monday 1st June 2015.
It follows a robust and challenging selection process over two days, (21st and 22nd May), which included a Stakeholder Panel questioning the candidates, members included representatives from business, local authorities, young people and charities.
For the formal interview, Mrs Baird was supported by Mrs Jacqui Cheer, Chief Constable of Cleveland Police, Mr Nick Hall, Chief Executive of Northumbria Probation Trust and Mr Bernie McCardle from Northumbria Police who offered human resources advice.
Mrs Baird has advised the Chair of the Police & Crime Panel, Cllr Peter Mole and the Vice Chair, Cllr Harry Trueman of her decision in advance of the Police & Crime Panel meeting.
