PCC Vera Baird congratulates cadets on award win

Northumbria’s Volunteer Police Cadets have received two High Sheriff Awards.
Last month cadets from Gateshead received an award from the High Sheriff of Tyne and Wear while cadets in Northumberland were awarded by the High Sheriff of Northumberland.
Both groups received the awards in recognition of youth volunteering and services to the community. As well as the accolade each also received funding towards training and development.
Over the past twelve months both groups have been involved in social action projects to reduce crime in their communities and raised the awareness of child sexual exploitation within other youth groups in the North East.
Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner, Vera Baird, said: “Our young cadets are an asset to the force and the communities they work in. They work incredibly hard engaging with other young people and assisting with crime prevention initiatives. I am very grateful to them for all they do and am delighted they have received these accolades.”
Northumbria Police’s Volunteer Police Cadet coordinate, Sergeant Alan Parks, said: “It’s fantastic news that our volunteer police cadets have been awarded by the High Sheriff’s of both Tyne and Wear and Northumberland and we’re really pleased that their hard work and commitment has been recognised.
“The cadets make a real difference to the communities they volunteer in and we’re proud of the work they do, they really are a credit to Northumbria Police.”
