Dame Vera Baird QC and fellow colleagues from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Northumbria, have smashed a £1000 fundraising target for Cancer Research after donning their running shoes for the good cause.
Dame Vera, who was joined by colleagues Gillian Grabham, Kate Graham and Rachel Lawson ran in Newcastle’s Race for Life on Sunday, which saw 1000s of women and children running in pink to help raise funds to pay for thousands of researchers, doctors and nurses who work to beat the disease – which affects one in two people.
The team was grateful of all the generous donations made to help them reach their target, and there’s still time for any last minute donations to be made here: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/veras-race-for-life-1
Dame Vera said: “Sadly, most of us know someone who has been diagnosed by cancer and we all have our special reasons for taking part and wanting to help more people survive.
“It was a fantastic day – with mixed emotions for many, but it was brilliant to see so many people turning out to support such a worthwhile cause.
“We’re very thankful to everyone who supported us and hope that together with the other runners we’ve done Newcastle proud in raising money for vital research and care to help in the fight against this horrible disease.
