Come and Meet Your Police Chiefs – Newcastle

28th May 2014

Come and Meet Your Police Chiefs Residents in Newcastle will have the chance to quiz their police chiefs at a public meeting on Thursday, May 29.

Police and Crime Commissioner Vera Baird QC and Chief Constable Sue Sim QPM will answer questions at a public meeting in the council chamber at Newcastle Civic Centre chaired by Newcastle City Council Leader Nick Forbes.

This is the first in a series of meetings to be held in each local authority area.

Newcastle City Council Leader Nick Forbes said: “This is an opportunity for people to be involved in a discussion about policing in their area, with the Police and Crime Commissioner Vera Baird and Chief Constable Sue Sim.

“I am delighted to be hosting this meeting for Newcastle residents and I hope that a good number of people turn up on the evening to ask questions and to discuss the issues that matter most in their community.”

The meeting will involve an overview from Vera Baird and Sue Sim and then the public will have an opportunity to ask questions.

The Commissioner, Vera Baird said: “I hope people will accept this invitation to come and find out more about policing in their area. Sue Sim, the Chief Constable, and I will also take questions.

“I would like to thank Councillor Nick Forbes for hosting this meeting and giving us this chance to speak with Newcastle residents face-to-face in Newcastle Civic Centre.

“The style of the meetings will be informal because we want people to feel that it is their meeting and feel comfortable about raising any issues they may have.

“Hearing from people first hand is very important to me, and I hope people will have plenty of questions and suggestions. Meeting local residents is a big part of my job, I regularly visit communities across Northumbria and I look forward to being in Newcastle once again on May 29.”

Chief Constable Sue Sim said: “The Commissioner and I are keen to hear from people about their neighbourhoods and any issues they may have in their area.

“We are absolutely committed to delivering the policing service people tell us
they want, and both the Commissioner and I regularly consult communities to hear their views and ask them about their priorities.
“This is an opportunity for people to speak to us face-to-face and ask questions. “I would encourage everyone to come along and raise the issues that matter to them.”
The meeting will start at 6.30pm on Thursday, May 29, in the Council Chamber at Newcastle Civic Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8QH. Chaired by Newcastle City Council Leader Nick Forbes.
