Commissioner’s Community Fund

13th August 2014

Groups supporting their neighbourhoods and communities have again been asked to apply for money from the Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner’s Community Fund.

Launched last month by Vera Baird, the 2014 / 15 Fund is available to group activities or projects supporting the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan.

Grants of up to £2,000 are available to charities, voluntary groups, community groups and social enterprises supporting victims, tackling anti-social behaviour, dealing with domestic and sexual abuse, promoting crime prevention or helping to reduce crime.

Any Sunderland, South Tyneside, Gateshead, North Tyneside, Newcastle or Northumberland group can apply for the funding with applicants asked to send an application form saying what they hope to achieve from their project and how it supports the Police and Crime Plan.

“I really do appreciate the work these groups are doing in the Northumbria communities to support the priorities in my Police and Crime Plan,” said Commissioner Vera Baird.

“This plan followed extensive consultation with the communities and neighbourhoods in the force area where the public told me about the issues they wanted to see police do more about.

“By helping these groups and projects it further supports my plan providing crucial assistance to the work being carried out by the force.”

Any group based in Sunderland, South Tyneside, Gateshead, North Tyneside, Newcastle or Northumberland can apply for funding.

Applicants must submit an application form outlining what they hope to achieve from their project and how it will support the Police and Crime Plan.

Vera Baird added: “As long as their purpose supports one of my plan’s priorities I want to hear from them.”

The five priorities of the Plan are: Putting victims first; Dealing with anti-social behaviour; Domestic and sexual abuse; Reducing crime and Community confidence.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 29 August.
