HMIC INSPECTION – REVISITING POLICE RELATIONSHIPS: A PROGRESS REPORT

Response to the national report published in December and in particular the findings in relation to Northumbria from Vera Baird QC, Police and Crime Commissioner Officer for Northumbria

“I welcome Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary report – Revisiting Police Relationships and am very pleased that the inspectors found no areas of major concern in Northumbria.

High standards of ethics and integrity are very important to me and in my opinion help to build a police service that the public can have trust and confidence in.

I’m very pleased to see that in the past year Northumbria Police has worked to improve their policies and processes with the update of several policies covering issues such as relationships with the media, accepting gifts and hospitality and the use of social media.  I am particularly pleased to see that Northumbria Police take this issue seriously and have undertaken a force wide integrity health check.

I am not complacent; there will always be room for improvement. I will work with the Chief Constable and Northumbria Police to further strengthen how we identify, monitor and manage integrity issues”.
