Northumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner has extended the deadline for groups to apply for grants from her Community Fund.
Vera Baird launched the 2014/15 Fund in July with money available to group activities or projects supporting the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan.
Charities, voluntary groups, community groups and social enterprises supporting victims, tackling anti-social behaviour, dealing with domestic and sexual abuse, promoting crime prevention or helping to reduce crime can apply for grants of up to £2,000.
“I’ve decided to extend the original deadline to Friday, 19 September, as I’m aware that with the summer holiday season many people may be having problems getting their application to us by the end of August,” Mrs Baird said.
“I want to hear from groups in Northumberland, Sunderland, Newcastle, South Tyneside, Gateshead and North Tyneside, telling me what they hope to achieve from their project and how it supports the Police and Crime Plan.
“I really appreciate what these groups are doing to support the priorities in this Plan.”
Applicants must submit an application form outlining what they hope to achieve from their project and how it will support the Police and Crime Plan.
The Plan’s five priorities are: Putting victims first; Dealing with anti-social behaviour; Domestic and sexual abuse; Reducing crime and Community confidence.
The closing date is Friday, 19 September, 2014. As there is only £100,000 of funding available not all applicants will be successful.
