Blue light services in the North East have reaffirmed their commitment to working together to ultimately improve services to the communities they serve.
Representatives from the area’s services came together to sign a new collaboration agreement at Northumbria Police’s headquarters in Middle Engine Lane, Wallsend, last week.
Chief Constable Winton Keenen and the Force’s Police and Crime Commissioner Dame Vera Baird QC met with Northumberland Fire and Rescue Authority, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Authority North East Ambulance Service – who all pledged to enhance their collaboration in order to improve services, provide better value for money and reduced demand on services.
Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner, Dame Vera Baird QC, said: “It’s important that our emergency services work in partnership for the communities that we serve. This collaboration partnership will give new energy to that determination and should give a boost to fresh ideas for further improvement. This is definitely an area of work in which we are better together.”
Chief Constable Keenen said: “Working together is all about maximising opportunities, sharing facilities and resources and developing successful initiatives so we can ultimately improve the services we provide to the communities we serve. I look forward to building on these relationships and forging new partnerships in the future.”
TWFRS Chief Fire Officer, Chris Lowther said: “Collaboration between blue light services is essential in maximising our resources and impact within our communities. The signing of today’s agreement strengthens this commitment to work closer. With the inclusion of NEAS our work, and that of our partners, will be enhanced for the benefit of those we protect.”
Gary Hedley, Chief fire officer for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service reiterated the positive elements of partnership working while Yvonne Ormston, the Chief Executive, of the North East Ambulance Service, added: “We already work very closely with our emergency service partners so we very happy to commit to looking at new ways that we can work together to help and serve our local communities.”
