Official opening for Whitley Bay Neighbourhood Office
Whitley Bay’s new neighbourhood policing office has just been officially opened by Northumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Vera Baird QC.
The office, based in the town’s Park View Shopping Centre right in the heart of the North Tyneside town, opened it’s doors last month (on September 7).
Now Vera Baird, who is also Chair of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners has cut a ribbon at the office to formally declare it open.
She was joined by Northern Area Commander, Chief Superintendent Sharon Stavers and North Tyneside Elected Mayor, Norma Redfearn and local Whitley Bay Councillors.
Commissioner Baird said: “This move demonstrates my commitment to ensuring our neighbourhood officers are fully accessible and closer to the communities they serve. We have made it easier for residents in Whitley Bay to seek police assistance, our new central location is more accessible and in the heart of the community. All savings made have been reinvested back in to policing.”
The office has the same opening times Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm with officers on hand offering crime prevention advice and helping those wishing to report a crime.
Chief Supt Stavers said: “This new neighbourhood office in Whitley Bay is proving to be popular with residents and visitors alike. It’s in a prime location which makes our officers much more accessible to local people.
“It’s being well received and we’ve had positive feedback from people who’ve so far called in.”
“North Tyneside’s Elected Mayor, Norma Redfearn, said: “I’m delighted that the police have been able to move into their new base in the heart of Whitley Bay.
“They do a fantastic job in keeping our community safe and this move will be great for both our residents and the officers involved.”
The new office replaces the old Whitley Bay station on Laburnum Avenue in the town.
