Rape Scrutiny Panel

29 rape cases have been scrutinised by a panel of 11 members since January 2015. We aim to improve confidence in the investigation process to ensure victims know they will get the support they need.
Sue Pearce panel member and CEO of Rape Crisis tells us about the panel:
“The rape scrutiny panel has been an excellent opportunity to give on independent view of rape investigations in Northumberland. I can represent the force of women survivors and strive to improve working practices which will benefit victims of sexual violence.”
Sheron Robinson’s view of the panel:
“I am proud to give my time voluntarily to the rape scrutiny panel, even over the relatively short term of the panel meeting it has been heartening to see the improvement in the reports that the panel considers. It is clear to me that the panel will contribute to the aim of improved outcomes for victims of sexual assault and rape.”
The panel continues to scrutinise the work of Northumbria Police in order to instil confidence in the investigation of rape.
