Dame Vera Baird QC, Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner, is delighted to announce that her preferred candidate for the Chief Constable post for Northumbria Police is Mr Winton Keenan.
Mr Keenen is currently the Temporary Chief Constable for Northumbria Police. The appointment will now await confirmation from the Police & Crime Panel, which will be scheduled in March.
It follows a robust and challenging selection process (5th March 2018), which included questioning from two Stakeholder Panels, members included representatives from local authorities and the voluntary and community sector.
For the formal interview, Dame Vera was supported by Mrs Dee Collins, Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police, Mr Nick Hall, Regional Chief Executive of Northumbria, Cumbria & Lancashire and South Yorkshire Community Rehabilitation Companies and Mr Mike Tait, Chief Finance Office at the Office of Police and Crime Commissioner.
Dame Vera has advised the Chair of the Police & Crime Panel, Cllr Angela Douglas and the Vice Chair, Cllr Harry Trueman of her decision in advance of the Police & Crime Panel meeting.
