Following media reports about Victims First Northumbria, below are two statements which have been released by the Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria.
Media Release – 16th April 2015 3:40pm
The Ministry of Justice has confirmed to the national media that there will be no investigation into the setting up of Victims First Northumbria or the decisions of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
This follows confirmation to the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner this afternoon from the MOJ that “there is no intention to investigate. An investigation is not planned.”
Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Vera Baird said: “My decision to establish a charity in order to deliver the highest quality of victims’ services to the public of Northumbria is the right model for our region.
“Victims First Northumbria is unique in that it will give victims one point of contact for all their needs and support.
“All Ministry of Justice procedures and protocols have been adhered to throughout.
“Victims First Northumbria has got off to a great start helping over 550 people in just over two weeks. I am confident that our excellent team of Victim Care coordinators will go from strength to strength with my strong support.”

“Victims First Northumbria has got off to a great start helping over 550 people in just over two weeks.
“As Police and Crime Commissioner, I received funding from the Ministry of Justice to ensure I provide an outstanding service to victims of crime.
“I looked at a number of options, as did all Police and Crime Commissioners, to ensure we would offer excellent value for money and a service that always put victims first and addresses their every need.
“It is clear the model that I have chosen was the best for our region. Victims First Northumbria is unique in that it will give victims one point of contact for all their needs and support.
“All Ministry of Justice procedures and protocols were adhered to.
“I am confident the team of coordinators will show that the decisions taken to create Victims First Northumbria were the right ones.”
